Write-30 No.60

Man and woman sitting at table

Spell Binding.

Imagine your parents are wizards and witches and you are told never to go down to the cellar. What happens when you sneak down? What happens when you open their spell book?

STUCK?   Try this story starter:
We had always been told never to go down to the cellar, Fantasima and I, but like all kids told never to do something by their parents that just made you want to do it, to find out what all the fuss was about, what the big secret is. And our parents already had a fairly big secret. Dad is a Wizard (Grade 2) and mum a witch (Grade 1 with honours) so whatever was down there would be good.
It was their fault really. They shouldn’t have left us alone to go to a friends’ house for a coffee and cake. I know it was only for an hour but a lot can happen in an hour. It wasn’t my idea to go down there, I swear, it was Fantasima. But of course she would not get blamed, never the youngest.
Anyway, she had sneaked the key down and came to me and said, with that mischievous twinkle in her eye, waving the key before me, ‘What do you think?’

Time Shift.

Imagine you get sucked into a time vortex and find yourself back in the past. What time do you find yourself in? Who do you meet? What do you do? How do you get home?

STUCK?   Try this story starter:
I’ve always hated Wednesdays. nothing good happens on a Wednesday. It is the middle of the week so you know you still have three days to go to school and you have double maths. What’s worse is there is nothing that good on telly. You’ve worn out Netflix and the only good programme is on late when you have to be in bed cos it’s ‘a school night.’
Last Wednesday was no different. I was sat in maths drawing Venn diagrams. i like Venn diagrams. It’s one of my things. I don’t like long addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Too straight. too linear. I like curves. I was taking time drawing a Venn with three circles when the lead broke on my second favourite pencil. The one with Darth Vader on given to me by Aunt Petunia on my eleventh birthday two years ago. So I headed to the cupboard where the electric sharpener is kept only for a large swirling black hole with bands of electric shooting out to appear right in front of me. This must be cos it’s Wednesday, I thought.

Person in facing wolf in forest

Wolf Spirit.

What if you had the power to turn into a wolf? What would you do? Would it be a normal wolf or something special?

STUCK?   Try this story starter:
Aunt Petunia always had warned Jamie to get home before the moon rises. Why? He had never been sure. Maybe some old world superstition that all the bad spirits were out at night. He didn’t know.
Anyway, one Monday he was late on his way home and it wasn’t his fault. It was all Jenkins’ fault. Jenkins had it in for him ever since he gave the teacher’s son a bloody nose for saying something about Jamie’s mum. It may have been true but that still didn’t give the kid the right. So Jenkins had given Jamie a detention for getting one question wrong in Science. One question! So Jamie found himself at the corner of Church Street by the church yard wondering if he should cut across. It would save him a good half-hour. Problem was church yards were definitely places you would find one of Aunt Petunia’s bad spirits.

Alien Invasion.

Aliens are gradually taking over the bodies of the people in your town. Only you seem to notice. What can you do? Who can you get to help?

STUCK?   Try this story starter:
Things started to go weird after the night of the asteroid. It crashed over in Johnson’s fields on the edge of town. But no one noticed. Most people were watching the Saturday special on TV or were online gaming, too busy to realise what was about to happen.
Jamie was the first to notice something wasn’t right. It began in a small way. He popped to Mabel’s Store to collect the newspapers for delivery. Higgin’s wasn’t around, which was a bit odd, but Jamie figured he was out back having a smoke (disgusting habit) so grabbed the bag of papers, hopped on his bike and set off for Henry Street. He couldn’t hang around for Higgins, he would be late for school. So he dropped off the first paper at No. 19 and sped off to the next house.
Jamie finished the route by about 7:15 so headed back to Mabel’s to grab his weekly pay. Higgins was stood behind the counter saying nothing. This was odd because…

The Secret Passage Way.

You visit an old library when on holiday. When looking around, you lean on a bookshelf. Suddenly, it moves to reveal a door to a secret passage way. Where does it go? What will you find?

STUCK?   Try this story starter:
Can you believe it? We were on holiday and my mother took us to a library! A library! Of all the boring places to go. Why not a water park or the beach or even a restaurant? But a library, I mean. I know she is a book fanatic but that was ridiculous. Anyway, I decided to wander around the place a bit as there was nothing else to do. There was row after row of tall bookcases that almost blocked out the light. They were filled with old leather bound books of various shades of black and brown. It was a like a book maze. So of course I got a bit lost and found myself in some dark corner by a wall of books trying to work out which way to go next. I leant against one of the shelves meaning to take a swig from my water bottle when I began to fall backwards. The shelf had moved. I turned around to look at what had happened and there was a door. A door made out of bookshelves.
